I have been looking at the KonicaMinolta DiMage Scan Elite 5400 II and the Nikon Cool Scan V ED scanners. Does anybody have any yeas, nays or other wises regarding these two scanners? I will say, I'm leaning a little bit towards the K/M.

Roger,
I just finished testing and writing a report on the Konica-Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II for Shutterbug. That is after using the previous 5400 for almost 2 years with great satisfaction. I have now replaced my older 5400 and bought my own 5400 II. As far as I am concerned Konica-Minolta is far ahead of the pack in 35mm dedicated film scanning hardware. However, I still prefer to add Lasersoft SilverFast Ai 6 to obtain the best software driver performance, and that goes for Nikon as well. Hardware manufacturers, whether it is scanners or digital cameras, aren't producing good software - I think they leave it as an afterthought after they have blown their R&D budget on the hardware.

Roger,
I have neither the Nikon or Minolta because I needed to scan medium format, but if I was to only scan 35mm the minolta would be the one to buy. I have done some reading on both and I believe Minolta has better software for the friendly user. Just my two cents worth. Monte Johnson.
David and Monte,
I ordered a 5400II from B&H this morning. Thank you for your helpful comments.

David and Monte,
This is the first slide-scan from the KM 5400II. The shot was a Kodachrome taken in April, 1981.
What a great scanner!
