I am thinking about getting a flash for interior shots. I hate to say this but have very little experience with flash. Am i better to buy the 600 or 800 flash or is there another alternative flash like the Metz handlebar flash. I notice many portrait photograhers use hnadlebar flash extended above the camera. I am guessing that gives a even balanced light. The 600 can be bought for a lot less than the 800. Let me know what you think. Monte.
I have multiple SB-800s and have done shoots where I controlled them all wirelessly from my D200. I think the SB-800 give you a stop more of light than the SB-600 in approximately the same size package, so it's more flexible in how you can use it. I also have a kit that I can go on location with using two SB-800s, light stands and white umbrellas. Here's something I did recently using two SB-800s controlled wirelessly with Pocket Wizards.
Larry, Thanks for the info. I may opt for the SB800. What you are doing here is far above my head at this point but is interesting. I have read some on the off camera flash and can see some real possibilites there. If only using a single flash you can trigger it from the camera without any additional unit? Monte.
Yes, I have more information on how to set both the camera and flash on this page on my web site.
Larry have you or do you use diffusers on the SB800 flash? I have not bought it yet but plan to and would like to know if I need to buy some type of diffuser.
Comes with a diffuser which I use pointed up at a 45 degree angle to bounce and catch some fill at the same time. Never use direct flash.
Thanks Larry I believe I will order it today. Monte.
