D-90 White Balance

I have been setting White Balance in all my previous Digital Cameras (point and shoot) as well as my Sony Video Camera...and find it quite straight forward...

For the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to set up a custom white balance on this Nikon D-90 and the resulting pix seem to be off color..I have read the manual...but is there any trick of the trade that you guys might recommend.....it seems that I can never nail the white balance with it set on Auto...or any of the presets...so I need to start setting it manually...but sure is complicated on this camera...

I think I have now figured it out....thanks.

But on another note....I am fairly unhappy about this new D-90 and the 18-105 Kit Lens that came with it....very few of my pictures so far have been "tack sharp"...not even close...I must be doing something wrong...but I tend to think it's the lens....very disappointing....wish I could figure out to get it better....

I have a heard that the 18-105 lens is a tack sharp lens on all occasions I have heard it is a great lens. I own a D90 but do not own this lens because this was my second dslr. Talk to you local cmaera store and see if they can find a problem maybe the VR is off and it is camera shake causing this.

Re Picture sharpness. Camera Kits are not the best way to go. It is best to purchase a Camera Body and do a research on the Lense or Lenses you require. All my Lenses are purpose Lenses and all are of top quality.
There are various reasons why a Photo can look unsharp. a slight camera shake is all it takes for one and the other is focus issues. Focus must be spot on. In short; A quality Lens,exact focus and fast enough shutter speed or slower but a steady Camera on a Tripod or some other means of basic support that will cater for the situation at hand.

As for the D90? Top Camera. Done a lot of work with it and the results are good enough for Me. But take in mind that i do use quality Lenses purchased seperately.
