continuous lights vs. strobe lights

I'm about to get my first light kit. i've seen a continious light kit for $244.95 from photoflex and a strobe kit from skaeser.com for $329. I can afford both. which would be better to get for a first time. i'm not looking to upgrade right away, so this descision would be final for now. thanks for your help.

Is it possible that you are comparing apples and oranges here? The Kaeser lights is a 3 light kit and the Photoflex a 2 light kit (if it is the same one at B&H for $240).
I think you really need to know the output in F stops of the main light at the distances you will be actually using the equipment. With mains flash you may also want to be sure that the modeling lights are proportional to the settings. Don't forget to budget in a light meter for setting the ratios.
If you want to buy it once and forever, look at the Alien Bees units. I have been using Paul Buff's products for 20+ yrs. When one of my 20 yr old unit was knocked down and in need of repair, it was done no charge, including the freight back!
