Hello Larry and all others:
Let start by saying that I am amateur photographer, but a professional Furniture maker. I wish to have digital photos of my work for a portfolio and my upcoming web page.
I have some experience with furniture photography from my apprenticeship wher I watched my mentor use film and digital with a 4 light and boom setup to shoot everything from a small lamp to a dining room table and hutch.
He used umbrellas and direct light and the results were OK, but I wish to go with soft lights for a diffuse , shadowless look. My question is what kinds of lights (brands and styles) and what color temperature (3200k vrs the new 5100K)would be best for wood tones.
I also could use advice in color and type of backdrop. My old mentor used a graduated black to gray drop cloth, but I ws thinking of something more standard like gray or off white.
I have been lighting sets on Ebay, especially a brand called Britek. I am not going to spend a lot of money on this, but I don't want junk either. I don't plan to travel and as a one man shop, they will get light (no pun intended) use.
Advice, reccomendations and referals are appreciated here or at my email address. (sunstwood@earthlink.net)
Thanks
