Canon XTI vs. 40D

Hello,

My hobby is photography:
If you had the XTI with the Tamron lens 17-50 and 28-300 for 1 year (my favor forms of picture taking is low-light (Big Ben in London and Eiffel Tower at sunset), sports (soccer/football day or night) and portraits.
Would you exchange the XTI body for the 40D body or stay with the XTI?

Is the 40D truly an upgrade from the XTI??

The Canon EOS 40D camera body is a significant step toward the rugged durability and reliability under heavy use of a professional Canon EOS camera, and has a few features and capabilities not provided in the Rebel. But unless you photograph a lot and under sometimes difficult conditions, the Rebel will serve most photographers about as well as the 40D.
