IMHO, this constant desire to upgrade fpr every small tech improvement is more of a derived demand than consumer generated.The real deal is that any benefit that you might get from 8mps vs 6 depends upon the size prints you are likely to make.
Using simple bicubic interpolation I, and many others, get 16x20's from 5 mp cameras.
The bottom line: the 20D will last you for a long time.

I just recently did a lot of shooting for some articles with a Canon EOS 20D, and in the last few days made some really gorgeous 13x19" prints from 20D raw files with Epson's new R2400 printer.

Digital is really not that different as far as new stuff coming out all too often making what you just bought seem obsolete. In the 80's I remember colleagues remarking about 35mm SLR's because it seemed like there was a new one almost every week or so. It's the intention of manufacturers, whether it is automobiles or cameras to constantly up the ante and make products obsolete regularly trying to get you to buy the latest and greatest.

With any altogether new major piece of equipment it usually takes some time to get so proficient with it you cannot improve any more. Only then does one really HAVE to think about upgrading and taking on another new challenge.

I wrote a letter to the SB News Press editor covering the story locally, expressing my opinion that the school should be closed if the practices it has followed since purchase by CEC are continued, if for no other reason than protecting the reputation of the school and that of the many graduates over the years it was run by the Brooks family. I just hope the California Department of Education does not back down.

Back in the late 80's I was getting bored and the advent of digital was a welcome new challenge. For quite awhile until digital began to be "real" it was tough sledding, but now I have no regrets about jumping in with both feet at the beginning and living on the bleeding edge of technology. Now I enjoy being able to do things I could only dream of in the old analog film days.
