I have a Canon XTI camera with a speedlite 550ex flash and I would like some help picking out either a new lens or a combination of lenses.
I'm completely new to digital cameras (other then point and click) and would appreciate some help.
My primary use for the camera is to take pictures of items I sell online. Everything from small items (coins and electronics) to larger items (houses, cars, etc).
The camera came with a 18-55 lens.
I have scheduled a camera course for digital slr cameras which starts next month, but would like to purchase a lens or two before then. I'm making photography my primary hobby this year (I really need to get out of the house and away from the computer) and would like a lens or lenses to take nice pictures. (as nice as I'm capable of)
I go to a fair amount of sporting events (hockey, football, soccer) and would like to take some pictures at these events. I also see a lot of bands and have access to be able to take photos at these events.
So we combine well lit areas taking pictures of stationary items with larger outdoor areas or indoor dark areas taking pictures of moving items. What type of lens or lenses do you recommend?
I would like to avoid spending over $500.00 right now.
I was looking at these two lenses, but honestly I really don't know what I'm looking at yet. Please offer suggestions with links if possible to what you would buy (with my budget) if you were me.
Canon EF-S 17-85mm IS & 75-300mm $600
CANON EF 28-135mm USM IS $325
Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM $475
I need a good macro lens to take close-ups of smaller items in high detail. Other then that, I just want to be able to take photos of the things I mentioned above.
Thanks for all your suggestions!
