Canon AE-1 Program problem

Hi all,
I dug up this old Canon AE-1 Program camera and I want to start taking pictures with it again. I've used it before in a highschool photograpy class and it worked fine. However while I was messing around with it today I took a couple of shots and all of a sudden it stopped working. The film advancer is locked but the shutter release button doesn't do anything. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

I had much the same problem and cussed the camera for a day. The next day I rewound the film...it continued rewinding film into the cannister after the numbers were back to zero. When I put the new roll of film in and tried it, lo and behold it works fine. Apparently once the film reaches the end of the roll it disables the shutter button...
