Having the focal length with the following lenses - Tamron 18-270mm lens - Sigma 10-22mm - Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II, I am curious if buying the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM lens is worth it. Is there a noticable difference when shooting nature and wildlife using a lens with f2.8 to one that is f3.5? Also, I want to know if it is worth the extra $ for the Image Stabilization, especially when I use a tripod for these photo shots?

I have a friend who lives in Ontario and is an avid naturalist and also a hunter. He is a bit older, a retired professor, and appreciates the sharpness of image made with his his Canon IS lens.. The photographs are very good for handheld captured in nature.
