Buying a digital camera. I want to spend less than $700 take mostly family portraits. What camera do you suggest. What is a good zoom? Should I buy SLR's that I already own lenses for? Currently have Maxum QSI 35mm with several lenses.

I can recommend two different DSLRs:
- the 6 megapixel Nikon D50 DSLR with the 28-80mm zoom lens for about US$650 from reputable companies; if landscape photography may be something for you, you should consider paying a little extra for the 18-70mm lens
- the 6 megapixel Pentax *ist DL with 18-55mm zoom lens for about US$750 from reputable companies
Check US resellers on the www.resellerratings.com website to get a good idea of how those companies operate and treat their customers.
