Sorry you got stung. I heard several months ago that the New Jersey Attorney General's office was pursuing some kind of action, but haven't heard anything more since then. Contacting the New York AG's office is a good idea. Also, you might want to leave a negative comment/rating at www.resellerratings.com. It'll be a little like "coals to Newcastle", but it can't hurt. Getting the word out to as many people as possible is the best defense. Obviously, not nearly enough people have gotten the word, which is precisely why Broadway Photo and its clones are still in business. As always, "caveat emptor" is the rule.....

I can't believe that people are still ordering from Broadway Photo with all the negative stuff about them on every forum and newsgroup. I even started a thread about them on this forum a few years ago.

And I can't believe that magazines like Shutterbug are still accepting ads from scammers like Broadway Photo with all the negative stuff about them on every forum and newsgroup. Yes, a lot of people know and wonder why others still fall for the scams but many more people don't know (yet) and get duped by these criminals, aided by people that for money's sake accept their ads. When is Shutterbug going to do the ethical thing? And please don't bring up the old excuses; we've all heard them too many times.

Well, 2 weeks have passed since I became entangled in Broadway Photo's depraved ways. Wow, have I learned a lot. Although I had been shopping on-line for 10 years, trouble free, this was my first purchase of a camera on the internet. For some strange reason, this kind of depravity has found a harbor in the photography business--very interesting.

You can not imagine the hours of work I have put into fighting this one. Something inside me was set off, and I will do all I possibly can to help prevent others from falling victim.

I sent Shutterbug's Editor, Ron Leach, and the Advertising editor, Eileen Meister, emails. I pleaded with them to stop enabling Broadway Photo to commit crime by allowing them to advertise in Shutterbug. I received a confirmation receipt for the sent e-mails, but neither Eileen, nor Ron cared to respond to the matter.

I filed a complaint with the BBB. And I also sent e-mails to other Photographic magaines, pleading for their support. Ironically, none of them have responded, but in my signing up for these forums I was responded to in the form of junk e-mails which seek to solicit business from me.

I took time to visit Resellers Ratings and I put in my complaint. Trouble is, for me and I fear others, I learned about this site after the crime, in forums like this.

I am also working hand-in-hand with my credit card company. But this has taken many hours of tedious work: lots of documentation and writing.

I never would have believed, two weeks and a day ago, that something like this is possible in this country. It appears the powers that be are content to sit and watch. Very interesting. I have to believe there will be a "straw that breaks the camel's back."

You are wasting your time and effort trying to get Shutterbug to do anything about this shameful situation. I've tried very hard in the past and I got all the usual excuses but no action whatsoever. Shutterbug and their publisher just take the money and don't care about people like you that get scammed. To their credit, Popular Photography stopped advertisements for Broadway Photo, but it took a lot of pushing them.
