Aperture 1.5 is a very effective and efficient piece of software to handle Raw camera files if you are doing a lot of shooting. But for most enthusiasts, unless you produce a lot of files that have to be sorted and culled, like a portrait or wedding photographer, its main advantages are not applicable. I think for most Elements 5.0 (or 4,0) with an upgrade to the same Camera Raw as is in the new Adobe PS3 beta, is a more effective package.

For just about any scanner the latest Version 6.5 of Lasersoft SilverFast will provide a definite advantage in image quality, particularly with the new Multi-Exposure feature that greatly reduces scan noise in the shadows. SilverFast also has the best tools to color correct and adjust final scan output to produce files that make the best prints, with minimal or no post-scan tweaking needed in Photoshop.

The bottom line I think is Aperture 1.5 may be overkill for non-professional
photographers except the few who produce high numbers of Raw files regularly. Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 or 5.0 with the new 4.0 Camera Raw coming, is efficient, and effective image editing application for most of the things needed by a digital photographer.

I am now in with several local artist one who has an Art gallery at the Mall in our Town. It is exciting to get my stuff out there.
