Subject: Adorama Camera

I recently tried to use Adorama's Trade In service. I sent in 2 cameras for evaluation. I didn't like there offer so they sent my cameras back to me. When they were returned to me one of them was damaged beyond repair (this was a $500 camera!). After several ignored calls and ignored emails, I finally got the person in charge of the trade-in department on the phone. He told me that they were not responsible for the damage, and that there was nothing I could do about it in the first place. He said that it wasn't his fault if his staff messed up my camera. Then he tried to say it was damaged in shipping. I have filed a report with the BBB on this. They were rude and nasty to me from the second that I refused there offer. I tell you this : STAY AWAY from Adorama. I am not the only person who has had this problem. I've met 5 others online with the same complaint...

Methos,

Adorama claims in writing that shipments to and from them are fully insured. Look at their ads in Shutterbug (May issue page 81 amongst others) where it says ...FREE UPS insured pickup... and ... return your equipment to you fully insured...
Call them up and insist that they live up to their claims and don't settle for anything less than fair value or full repair at a shop of your choice!!!

I've had a different issue with them. Sent them an SLR and several lenses for their evaluation. They wanted to buy everything for ridiculously low prices, less than half of what I could (and did) sell it for on Ebay. When I got my stuff back, two of the more popular lenses were missing and Adorama claimed they could not find them in their facility. Short story short, they offered to pay me the ridiculously low prices they had quoted me, but I insisted they pay me for what I could sell them for on Ebay and after numerous calls they finally agreed. When I got my check it was for about $7 less than what we had agreed upon. I will never again deal with Adorama, used or new.

I have had a problem with Adorama on new order. I place an order and entered a wrong credit card number. To resolve the problem I call the phone number the gave in their email. From the phone number they said respond by e-mail. Sending credit card numbers through e-mail in not the way to handle this type problem. After sending an e-mail describing my concerns about security on my credit card number and never getting to talk to someone person to person. I canceled my order and place with someone else with no change in cost. That will be my last dealings with ADORAMA!!!!

For the hell of it, I just compared the lifetime ratings on resellerratings.com for Adorama (5.34) and B&H (9.23). I guess that's a clue.....

Wary but brave, I ordered a new camera via Amazon.com but fulfilled by Adorama. I ordered online on a Sunday, the item shipped Monday and arrived Wednesday. Item was well packed, factory seal, etc.. I've had several less than positive dealings with NYC camera shops, but this experience was smooth. Buying through Amazon's site adds a layer of security, I believe, as if something goes haywire we the customers can can complain to Amazon too, who in turn can lean of the end merchant. Good luck!

I've ordered multiple times from Adorama and never had any issues. Actually last time I ordered stuff from them I was given a discount because I called to add stuff to the order, I've no idea, but for some reason it was $100 cheaper.

They will continue to get my business.
