Hello! I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate place to post this question but here goes...
I am debating between buying a 35 mm SLR or a dSLR. I am going to Africa on Safari and my current point and shoot digital camera is not going to cut it. I am leaning towards dSLR because I think in the long-run the developing costs of the 35 mm will be too much.
I dabbled in 35 mm SLR photography back in high school (took two years of photography and was a school paper photographer) so am familiar with camera basics and appreciate good 'ole black and white film developing. But nowadays I don't have access to a darkroom and I've learned to appreciate the instant gratification and feedback of digital.
I am leaning towards the Canan Rebel XT after reading reviews and opinions. Though I'm buying this camera now mainly due to the Africa trip, I do intend to do some hobby photography in the future.
My questions are...do you think the cost of the dSLR is justified? Also, what would be a good lens to pick up distance shots of animals? I'm not looking to spend a whole lot on the lens and want something as small as possible that will get the job done so I'm not trekking around with a huge lens.
Thank you!
