Hey I own a Rebel XT and I noticed in the owner's manual that it said not to use the camera below 32

Batteries discharge more quickly at lowe temps. carry a spare.

Other reasons may be mechanical like the shutter and aperture; lubricants may get stickier at lower temperatures.
