First, I love my 30D but.....
When I got it and in flash mode the lights at the bottom of the viewfinder started at the ends and flashed down to the center to let you know the flash was ready for the subject. Now they do not. And, a lot of my in room pictures are pretty dark looking.
In addition, the top LCD panel used to show the amout of shots you had left according to the resolution you chose. Now it just stays at 999.
Any ideas? I did reset all camera functions back to the defaults but no help.
Disappointed I received no replies back on this post but I guess that's how it goes sometimes.
I did send the same post to the Canon web site and received a reply from them on Friday to return the camera for warranty repair.
Bummer.
I've been planning to buy a new camera and have been looking at the XTI, 30D and 5D. I'm curious about how your warranty repair went and whether your still happy with the 30D.
I just moved up to the 30D myself and I think it is great.
I dont think I can help you with your flash problem but I can try.
You might check and see what zone you are shooting in ,your flash will not work in 2 of your preset zones ( Landscape & Action ) or check your ISO setting and Your White balance to see if that helps, but as far as the the LCD panel at the top showing 999 is because that is the highest number your camera will show and your JPG file size is set to small. Try setting your JPG file size large or even RAW and see what it says then. I noticed the same thing the first time I went to a 2 GB mem. card or larger.
I dont think it could be a problem with your camera but I guess there is always that possibility.
Good Luck and I hope this was help to you.
Shawn
Well I did not take my camera in for repair.
The flash card was bad. They gave me a new one and the problem with the count down went away. I found the maximum at 999 but it also gave me that at higher settings.
A new card showed around 740 or so as I recall.
Then a reset to original settings and the flash count down started working.
Just dumb on my part I guess?
Anyway I love the camera. I have been bracket shooting and found nice results since.
I have a 30D and never been happier. I haven't had a chance to deal with Canon USA customer service but my mother and 2 other friends in Italy had and Canon Italy provided the best customer service one could hope for. They fixed my mother's camera, which is 4 years old, at no charge, and the turnaround was less than a week. Similar story with my friends with their out of warranty cameras.
