Yes, even a greater cost it's worth the ability to work with slower speeds.

I have shot several pageants with very low light and gotten sharp images with IS. It's been a great feature.

IS lenses have consistently helped me in low light situations where the trip[od is not available.

Unfortunately, however, my current 28-135 IS only offers little more in exchange for a "slower" lens. I am not sure if there is a tradeoff.

The good experience of a friend with an Olympus with stabilization means I need to consider it seriously. If it can reduce the times when a tripod is needed, hurrah!
